The Symposium will cover the products, technologies and applications, leading to innovation in medicinal products, cosmetics, food, agriculture and consumer fields.

Professor Patrick P. DeLuca
Professor Patrick DeLuca (1935-2019) received bachelor's and master's degrees in pharmacy and a Ph.D. in pharmaceutical sciences, from Temple University. He was an analytical chemist with Smith Kline & French in Philadelphia and a research associate at Temple University prior to accepting a position as a research scientist at CIBA Pharmaceutical Co. in New Jersey. He left the corporate Pharmaceutical Industry, moving to Lexington in 1970, joining the faculty at the University of Kentucky, College of Pharmacy where he held Administrative positions and served as an Associate Dean and as a professor in the Division of Pharmaceutical Sciences. He greatly contributed to the advancement of freeze-drying science and technology and in the area of microencapsulation process development of proteins and peptides.

Prof. DeLuca was a Fellow, founding member, and President of the AAPS; President, Fellow and member of the APhA Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences; a senior Fellow of the Institute for Advanced Biotechnology; and a member of the American Pharmaceutical Association, Controlled Release Society, Parenteral Drug Association, New York Academy of Sciences, American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, and the American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists.

Beyond his outstanding scientific production and contribution to microencapsulation sciences, he was also a dedicated Pharmacist, dearingly committed in chearitable pharmacy organizations, such as “Faith Pharmacy” that he founded to consult and secure free medications to underserved people.
